Posting in the last few months has dropped quite a bit. I'm curious of the reason behind the drop in posts. Please vote in this poll if you have a minute.

I still post, but there are days when I'm not online at all. Mostly because of work and dealing with my mother's cancer.
As a mod, I skim thru threads in my forums every day or two, and if there's nothing for me to post about, I try to create my own threads.
Thanks to the stats page being overhauled, I discovered that I am in second place for users who created threads.

I went with "There's nothing left to post about" ... thats not exactly it but I guess it's close enough. Basically I do post when someone mentions something I am interested in ... but that seems to be happening less and less now. I suppose it just comes from my own interests moving further and further away from most people's interests here.
Had I thought about it I would have chosen the 'too slow' option as well since right now it is very slow ...heh. There are people posting so the 'no one else posts' one doesn't apply and the only 'mission' I want from a message board is 'people saying interesting stuff' so I couldn't care less about that one.

Closest for me is "Too busy with life."
I have a lot going on (unfortunately, TV, too). Takes a lot of time. Otherwise, I'd probably spend more time in Theology (so, if I get more time, watch out, folks!). :D

Because no one else is posting
I generally only post in the threads that interest me, which is generally in the rock/metal forum. To be honest, I have actually posted more in recent times than I have before. I didn't vote for that reason.
Timezones, most of the posting happens when I'm asleep. Also, after the death of FS1.0, all my posting buddies decided not to post on 2.0.
And, I'm doing my last year of high school, plus a pilot course, and a social life on top of that, so it doesn't leave too much room to mess around on the net =/

I love Firestream. However the new chat thing has seemed to slow it down a bit. Also, same old topics seem to be rehashed alot. We also need alot of fresh music to take the Christian scene out of the slumps sometimes...! People get used to the same kind of bands just like labels get used to same kind of sound.....but I am not mentioning names....LOL!!!!!!!!!

None of the above options suit me...
I've gone on about this a little with GothDad in the chat box, but to try and put it as simply as possible...
The reason I don't post much is that the areas I am most interested in (Theology & Liturgy - which is basicly an expression of theology), I am blocked from posting in. :-(
And due to my circumstances... Am in no position to post anything about music.
I have no interest in posting about what I had for breakfast this morning (eg. the food & drink area...).
Posting about things like TV shows & Movies provides me with no significant "Boat Floatage", as Munkey would say... Likewise, personally... I don't see the point of meaningless twaddle on forums... I like forums to be to have a point)
As for the Technology forum... By the time I come on and find something interesting, that I actually have something I could contribute... 10 or more people have already replied, and I'm not about to just repeat exactly what everyone else has said... adding nothing worthwhile new.
Anyway... all these, and more, mean that I find nothing here to post about to get a 100 count... (required to post in Theology)...
So, I just look around in the Theology area, and spend a lot of time using the new chatbox... of which I'm the Third (and catching up to Second) top "shouter"... however... that counts for nothing as far as getting to the area of my interest...
So.. until I can somehow prove that I don't exist... I guess I'm just left to look & shout.
Necromanicide.
Just to add another couple of points...
1) There appears to be a great familiarity between quite a few of the main posters... and I often see threads turn into one line "friendly" sort of comments between these people, and this banter can sometimes drown out the serious conversation going on in the thread. On occasion I have even had to look across a whole page of this "friendly banter" to try and follow the real discussion.
2) A number of my first few attempts to post something I thought worthwhile to a thread, for some reason seemed to become the death of the particular thread... ie. No one else posted to the thread after me...
These two experiences resulted in me not feeling overly encourage to post anything further...
Especially in areas I don't know much about, or not interested in.
Well, that's just my experiences as someone not exactly brand new to the forum... but someone who really feels left out of being as involved as he wants to... in the areas he is actually interested.
ps. thanks to GD, ferme & godsrockess in the chat... I don't feel quite so alone around here... but am still unable to post in the areas where I feel that I know most about, and have the most to offer...

Well that is cool. I'll be real honest one of the main reasons I don't post here is there are alot of jaded know-it-all scenster poseur 17 year olds and their constant bagging on everything when they are not making one of three different threads about some obscure band that I think sucks.
It is them and the phariseetical pinheads who chase away decent and cool people with anti-evangelism (like with the MSW guys) that keep me from being as involved as I was in the old board. Remember wounds from a friend can be trusted!:D I may be in the complete minority on this but then again maybe not??? We need more cool kids like Blooddrift and Iron Guardian around here.

We (Neon Cross) just haven't been around anywhere on the web this year because we're too busy recording. But we've taken a little break with Calistone and all.
For the most part we feel committed to respond to what anyone would like to know about the band and beyond that it's a question of time what time we have availible.

Stats-wise, I think I'm actually posting more, but the chat eats into my time, because I really enjoy it, and the posts I'm usually adding are not of the substantive Theology variety that was a significant portion of my earlier posting habits. I've really slacked off on my Theology posting, and I don't foresee returning to it in force anytime soon.
I have other things outside of my online time that prevent me, of late, from spending more time here on FS. But I do love FS dearly. It's a great online place to hang out.

Agreed here - I have cable internet, but I have a lot of other things going on in my life right now that are eating up time resources, and definitely the interesting thread topics are becoming less frequent. I would help to fix that, but then the first point gets in the way lol.

Apart from being fairly bored with the Christian metal scene at the moment (well, metal in general to be honest) I used to post a lot more in Theology and Christian discussions but after being offended and insulted many times by multiple people, with other like-minded people getting similar treatment it made me stay clear of them and post less.
Disillusionment? Maybe. I guess I felt I could use my time better.

Hi Solid,
The past month or two work has been getting too much, so I haven't been browsing as many threads as usual. And i've now got 2 weeks break (hooray for day 3 :) ) after which i HOPE i will feel more like visiting and getting more involved.
I've basically cut down on all www browsing time.
I have felt as though the times I do visit, theology didn't seem quite as busy as usual, but that's a good thing :p since i get a chance to catch up on the threads I'm interested in. I'm only visiting today because I had some threads I was subscribed to, and a PM.

Lately I have been hanging out on the musicians page. I dropped off the Theos age, cause I have little time to think and execute, and with the huge change with IFBUTFORONE and RSR splitting, I am trying to figure out a way to press the Cd's still. To be honest, there really arent as many people on here that I can relate to, or think the same way I do anymore. I mean, I love talking about music, mainstream or christian but the bands are all NuMetal or black or unblack or metalcore or whatever. Nobody wants to talk about 70's or 80's mainstream or christian rock anymore.
I like Ultmetal's web site where he has one forum for metal and one for just rock. That Idea has been kicked around here for a few years but has never materialized.
I do love the Music Vault. I use it alot for song lists, year of release, and lyrics. It's my version of a christian "Wikipedia" or Google. If comments in the vault count as posts, then I have alot of posts due since I need to comment on about 40 or so albums I have added lately.
This isnt a knock on young people at all, Im sure people will understand when I say this but I wish there were more poeple here on FS that are in the 35-or-older range.

I was never a huge poster because I never saw the point in posting just to post. If I have nothing to add I just move on. If a thread is "Who loves band X?" And there are 4 people who have already said what I would, I figure one more is irrelevant. I contribute when I feel like I have something to contribute, but I'm also perfectly happy to read for information/news/etc.
I also sometimes tire GREATLY of the occasional (it's not always . . .) elitism/condescending spirit that comes across to anybody with an opinion. Who needs that in their message board life?

No one will agree but if you can the Theology forum much of the offending/bad taste goes away. At least I would think so. Most people's negative experiences seem connected to arguing or disrespecting some theological position. There are plenty of places on the web to go crucify others with how right you are. Just IMO

I couldn't put an answer in the poll area.
I go here often but tend to read posts alot and can often not be bothered in posting myself.
Maybe it's because there is so much on the net that some of us tend to spread our time more widely.
Also particular topics that tend to come up over an over like in theology can be so frustrating for some of us they we'd rather not even bother posting there at all - the moment we share a view that's against the majority or dominating view, we are treated with little respect. And for me i know that if i'm gonna post on a particular topic for eg in theology i'd want to answer in thorough detail, but this takes a huge amount of effort and time that exhausts me, and in the end the topic usually becomes a dead horse - for eg Creationism v evolution.
For some topics i find there's really no point in talking about them unless it's in person, because by typing it's often hard to get out the exact words one wants to say, and it doesn't flow like a real time conversation would.

I was already established at Heart of Metal so the majority of my time is there. Which is ironic because I ONLY listen and collect Christian music. HOM is not advertised as a "believers" forum, however the atmosphere there is laid back, fun, friendly with lots of Christians AND non Christians that are very respectful and enjoy some of the Christian stuff too. Here, it’s certainly not friendly and I don't want to debate weather this band or that is truly Death or thrash or whatever. I am also disappointed in the amount of good Christian people here that listen to secular stuff they have no business listening too. I might as well stay at a secular forum. Having said all that, I'm going to be here more posting and I do like this forum very much. I think it's up to all the members to create the right atmosphere. Young people and old alike need to check their attitudes and hearts before posting. This is a BELIEVERS heavy refuge! A place of escape, of fun, hobbies and enjoyment. Only the members can create that. Not the web-masters and designers. They've done their job and given us this awesome, free tool. We need to make sure it doesn't become like many churches, clicky and snobby.
I post as much, if not more, than always.
for me its because i've been working. first job...school just started a few weeks ago. i'll be trying to get on more...i miss you guys.

I believe its about community and the bands. Its whatever we can do to shine for Jesus and talk about the best music in the world. Christian Rock & Metal.
Firestream is not a Church and I'm no pastor.
But you said that it IS a community. The leader of a Christian community may not be a "pastor", but they are a leader.
I also find it interesting that we're trying to judge whether FS has lost its mission by measuring the lack of posts. Plenty of popular places have lost their vision and remain extremely popular. The Democrat Party for one. Frankly, I think asking people who are actually here why they don't post is a bit ironic... it's the people who AREN'T here that matter most.
As for why the board has slacked off, I think the real answer is a combination of factors:
1. As surge said, the chat function makes it a lot easier for the people here to talk. It's taken a lot of the fluff posting and put it into chat where it, thankfully, disappears fairly quickly.
2. School's started. Big factor when you're dealing with a genre of music that's heavily influenced by people whose posting activity is cut back for 8-10 hours a day, depending on whether they get their homework done.
3. Frankly, I think your competition has also opened up. MB's are soooooooo 2003. Myspace, Facebook... They may be soooooo 2006, but that's still more recent.
While my own posting has backed off because of "life" and "lack of mission", I don't think "mission" really has a factor - even though I'm the biggest voice calling for one. It's not like this place lost its mission one morning a month and a half ago and if we look real hard, we'll find it right next to our missing gym sock. The loss of mission has been, and will continue to be, a long-term factor.
But I'll save that all for another thread.

I haven't been on as much - therefore I haven't post as much as I once did. Life is busy. Sometimes there isn't anything to say either. I too like browsing through the posts and opinions of people. I will add my opinion if I have one to give.
I miss some of the people I had regular contact with over the last few months - the Christian fellowship we all share on here is great. My spirit has been uplifted a number of times by the contact and conversations I have had with people on here - thankyou Firestream!

I try to get around. Sometimes I just come by and see if there is any new news about the bands, then I go. Concidering I live alone in a townhouse, that means I do all the cleaning, cooking, laundry, chores, etc.

I am rather happy with the intense schedule I have now. So, busy I suppose.
When I was in bands playing either live or practice 5 nights a week during firestream 1.0, I was really gung-ho about doing Christian metal for God etc...now that I don't live in the city nor in a band nor know anyone (real life) that listens to hard rock/metal, it's seems a little less tangible.
It's kind of a ironic -- when you actually are "doing ministry" by playing concerts a lot, you have a lot of waiting time before shows to post on firestream a lot. Now, I spend that time (to me) more wisely practicing since it's my house and I can. I hope to get videos up of me playing songs accurately by Crimson Moonlight, Sympathy, Psycroptic, and Hate Eternal by Christmas and start shopping for bands to join and that takes up a lot of time. I just want to play for God and help/inspire others to follow suit, not argue about whether something is ambient black or black ambient, or can you do this or that while being this denomination or that or whatever. I read posts every other day but don't post a lot I imagine...I don't have too much to say about guitar strings, beer, hit tv shows, etc...
I am very glad for firestream and thank God for this place and all the brothers and sisters in the Lord here. I think firestream is doing its job well as an online board.

I wish there was an "other" option, but honestly I'll say there's a big reason I know of for a lack in posting by a few people I know who've left this board, but I'd prefer to not mention it though I'd say it goes along with the "lack of mission" idea in a way, but not entirely.

I didn't select 'Too busy with life' b/c I didn't want anyone to think that I don't care about Firestream...so I selected 'Nothing to post about'. I'm also on board w/ several other message boards (toy related mostly) and those usually end up taking most of my "free" time when I'm on-line.
I do often get caught up in life though that a lot of things get neglected, including several web sites I like to hit regularly. When I do have time though, I try to swing by to work in the Vault...I just don't always remember/have time to post what I updated.

(from an unnamed old member) Well mostly because life is getting on the busy side of things, however (solid you know who I am) and I want to be as nice but bold as possible. I just seems like there is nothing more to chat about, nothing to look forward to on fs. I know not many people liked the spam, but it was so looked down up on that it kinda zipped the fun out of typing on here. Not that this is me preaching on a soup box, so please take what I say with a grain of salt, but maybe this calls for redefining the word "spam". My most enjoyable times is when I could kick back and just be my strainge, creepy, goofy self. :)
I haven't posted here in a long time. busy with life definately but I also post a lot on gospelgraffiti.com because aside from rock and metal, graffiti is a great passion of mine.
There are not that many members there yet but because of that I feel much more connected there. Firestream has become to big for me. I still lurk at times though and read the threads in the metal/rock forum, as well as the gaming threads.
Keep it up Solid.

There wasn't really an option in the poll for me.
I just don't post because I've either read or posted about many of the bands on other forums like Christian Hard Music or Christian Metal Realm. With me owning one and moderating the other, I really just don't have time for another forum. I pop in every once and a while to see if anything new is out that I've missed, but I usually already know what's up in the music scene.
Besides, there for a while it seemed like the focus was on more extreme metal bands, and I am not much of a fan of that.
I did see a few peeps here who used to post at CMR and CHM but did not do so after we both moved off of EZ Boards. I guess the question could be posed to them as to why they did not come along for the ride.
But, different strokes for different folks, right?

I was getting really tired of hearing people arguing in forums and meaningless chit-chat was getting really meaningless.
It was kind of the same to me. I see folks beating on Christians on the secular Boards I'm on all the time. When I see Christians beating on each other like I did here a while back it kinda leaves a bad taste ya know. I felt this was kinda volatile and a dangerious place to post last time I was hanging around and I didn't need that. I have been spending most of my online time on a couple of Praise and Worship Boards a couple of manufacturers Boards and the CMR lately. I'll drop over a little more often cauze it has been a while and Solid is a fellow Bama dude.

I find that I don't have a huge amount of time -someone's usually said what I was going to on certain threads, and I don't often post regarding theology or politics, as I'd rather focus on what unites us. Oh, I also don't listen to 'core' music, which counts out a number of threads :). Still, I really enjoy my time here, and getting to know some members well, which is great for a sense of fellowship when nobody you know locally shares your musical taste!

the main reason is that I am tired of discussing theology with atheists and ex-christians who end up taking the thread into sophistry. You always end up trying to convert an angry sinner.
My purpose on joining Firestream was to have discussion with the redeemed...
