I need to change my bass strings, they're LONG overdue, partly because I haven't really played them as much as I do now. I used to get D'Addario Slow Wounds because of the clarity of the highs and punchiness of the lows. But they don't make them anymore. Does anyone have any recommendations for a set of bass strings that I should try with those sound characteristics?

I used to play with GHS Boomers and i was happy with them. But in the old Firestream Musican's Corner a couple of members recommended Rotosound Swing Bass 66 (RS66LD) and i got them. Although they are a little bit cheaper then the GHS, i like them more. The sound is in my opinion a bit more firm and a bit more the way i prefer it. I also had Ernie Ball strings once, but the sound was too metallic for me and i'm not sure, but i think they didn't last as long as GHS Boomers or Rotosound.

I've tried boomers and slinkys, they just didn't have the bite that the slow wounds had.

A friend of mine used those I think they were Cean Markley, Blue Steel cryogentics strings or something to that nature! The sounded great to me

I've only used the conklin bass strings and found them to have a much better tonality than any of the other strings i've used.......crappy that i can't get them anymore up here.

Those are good strings, I've used em many a time. They're REALLY metallic for the first few days, but after that, they sound pretty good.

The only other two I would really recommend are Elixirs (duh) and Warwick strings...I was surprised at how good the stock strings on my Warwick sounded and at how long they lasted. DR Blacks aren't too bad either, but they definitely don't hold a candle to the other 2.

I have Slinky's on there right now, and they're decent, but nothing to write home about.

Try Rotosound Solobass - they're halfwounds.

They sound really good. . .
