OK, I'm looking at buying a MArshall AVT 100watt three channel combo amp. The amp itself sounds amazing and is load enough to gig a small venue. It also has a speaker line out for an extention cab. My question is this do you think I could run the amp through a cheaper marshal Cab like a MG4x12 and maintain the amps sound. or should I stick with the AVT cab? Thanks.

whatever you do find a cab with the same wattage, for instance, you have a 4x12 and a 2X12, but the 2x12 takes more power....do not do that, or you will blow that sucker, unless you don't care, and then yeah ahead and play away.......If you do try, can you record the vid, so I can watch it?:D
You can hurt the amplifier! It needs to be the same output!:headbang:

shouldn't that be the same Ohms? if the speakers on the combo total 4 ohms, shouldn't the ext. cab equal 4 ohms as well?

next to the speaker jacks on the back of the combo will tell you what to look for in your cab. it may say '200 watts @ 4 ohm' or something similar. you will not want to exceed that load.

So if the combo has an output (RMS) of 100watts and Impedance of 8 ohms, the cab I get needs to be rated for 100watts @8ohms? is that right? The Cab I'm looking at is rated at 120watts of power and 8 ohms. Can I get away with just the 20 watt overage as long as I don't crank the amp all the way? The cab is a Marshall MG412A by the way.

all you can do it try. You should maybe do a checkdown at marshalls site. I do not use their stuff, but that would be my next guess.

as long as you don't exceed the 120 watts that the cab can handle, you should be fine.

when you plug into the amp, the signal will be cut from actually if I remember right 50 watts to 25. The amp is 100 watts, and if you have 2 discrete channels, the watts go in halfsies per channel. You really will not be pushing a lot of signal and that can also damage the amp. You really need go get an amp, not a combo, but that is my 25 cents worth
