My college group, Occam's Razor, a prog metal band played our first gig tonight. It was a battle of the bands and we took 2nd of 9 (still mad that we lost to a Johnny Cash cover-band!). However, the guy running sound thought we were incredibly tight and offered us a contract as a house band for a local venue to open for national acts, so I think that took the sting away from a lousy 2nd place finish.:headbang: I guess Occam's Razor will soon be opening for some pretty big acts because we are of course going to accept the contract.:headbang:

First show i ever played, my band opened for my favorite band of all time, The Accused. The show was sold out, we played a tight set and there was a riot while we played.
needless to say the rest of that bands shows were quite less spectacular.
cool to hear you got some future gigs.. thats always nice

Yeah, next one is tomorrow actually. We're playing a 30-minute set at Relay for Life and expect at least a few hundred people there, probably around 800+. That should be fun. :) And I didn't mean it was my first gig of course... just first for this particular band. My first metal gig was quite a ways back with a pretty bad line-up of musicians that had no idea what was going on and just didn't end up so well....... I don't think I need to be too specific about how much we sucked. hahahaha

That's really cool, Altruist. If I had to choose first place or the agreement I would definitely go with the agreement. Aside from having set place for guaranteed shows you also get to build your bands bio by opening up for all those national acts.. I would say you definitely came out on top with gig.

Ditto. A "Battle of the Bands" is usually not all that fair anyway. The first one I was in was supposed to be for amateur bands (i.e. no cd's , radio airplay etc.), but for some reason they let a southern rock band in that had been together for about 6 years, had 2 cd's, songs on the local radio stations, , and were the former house band at the venue where the competition was being held. Hardly a fair contest if you ask me..... ;)
We came in second and were the sound man's favorite as well. :D
Sounds like your band is off to a great start!!!

Where can I hear your music? What do you play? (I know 'bout the band Altruist and I know you used to play from CT)
