Ibanez is making a previously custom 8-string line a full-fledged production for the public. I was wondering if anyone here has ever played an 8-string before? I'm thinking this is going to be my next purchase.

There was a post earlier 'bout this. Either by ToddPope or Edgecrusher. I'll try to find it.

this is the thread for this beast!

Dino Cazares is the master mind behind this guitar, and yes it will about about 1600 a pop! It will have a Floyd and custom EMG 808's in it too, but it is not a custom, or a signature.

Ah.
I really want to get this. The only problem is that pricetag. It's ridiculous. I'll have to settle for a down-tuned shecter 7-string to get the sound I need.

if you do that, look into the the new guitar for Schecter made for Jeff Loomis! If that is too much then yeah, but I will tell you now from experience, that you better really know if that 7 string is the way you want to go....

Just played that guitar yesterday through a Mesa. Sounded like **** compared to the Ibanez RG 7321 (which was played through the same Mesa amp). Strange, I know. Then again, it was a display. Maybe some idiot screwed with it before I got there. But, I still recommend the Ibanez. I have always liked that particular one. And its only like $360.

to play a 7 string you have to know good EQ settings, that and make sure it is in tune! I do not touch Ibanez guitars under 500!

Uuuuhhhhhhh yeah. I know how to tune a guitar and I know about EQ settings. According to some people, I am way to picky about my EQ settings.
The guitar just sounded crappy. Like I said earlier, maybe some jerk-off screwed the guitar up before I played it.

And, let me say this about the Ibanez 7321. It may be under $500, but it is a great guitar. Crimson Moonlight even uses it (BUT, they did change out the pickups, which is wise). Its really not even mandatory to change out the pickups, as long as you have a decent amp with good gain. That will most likely be my next guitar.

I had a 7321, and many other guitars....man you need to take a huge chill pill man! Shoot I own a Tele now, and I payed 450 for it, and I get better sound out of that than most other guitars I have played. But by all means get it, and have fun......sheesh

just be open to other suggestions! I know you are just like all of us, who do not want to hear someone bashing on you when they are not, but in the end it only helps man! good luck!

I'll take your advice. I am open to suggestions. Its just that the Jeff Loomis Schecter guitar I played was.......there must have been something wrong with it. Like I said, it was a display, which means it may have been dropped or something. I expected it to be a pretty intense guitar, but there definantly was something wrong with it. I'll have to try another one out. I couldn't image Loomis putting his name on any bad product. Are there any other 7-stringers you recommend as well as the Hellraiser (a.k.a. Jeff Loomis guitar)?

yeah you can also try the Hellraiser C-1 FR. I am going after this guitar, when I get enough cash to go after it! I personally onjoy 6 strings, but to each his own! Well I do know that the Jeff Loomis might also be like 1500 dollars too.....to each his own, and best of luck! Let us know what you get!

Sure Thing.

And, I actually have been considering another 6-string guitar. I'm not sure though. It will be at least another month before I get another guitar (money issues  ) Hey, I like the new avatar, edge.

wellI know that the hellraiser I spoke of that has a FR and the EMG's is only 700, and to me that is unreal! But I have the same issues too with the cash flow!

I know this is an old thread, but....

I played the 8 string a few weeks ago and thought it sounded like poop. Now don't get me wrong. I love Ibanez....look at my name.....I think I'll even be buried with one. But the extra low string was just floppy and muddy. No clarity at all. I was very dissapointed. And I'm a diehard Universe fan so I'm no stranger to low tuning or extra strings.

Just my 2 cents.....

what crappy amp did you use, and did yo uhave the gain all the way up?

I personally think any discussion about 8 strings belongs in the ridiculous guitar thread. Let the bass do its job.

I played it thru a Marshall...um.....MG something or other.......one of the new ones. Regardless, it still seemed to muddy. That won't keep me from getting one eventually just to have one. I have GAS, Gear Aquisition Syndrome.

I have an Ibanez Rg 7321. I like it, it seems to be a good guitar, to me. I would like to change the bridge pickup, though.
