Question #1 What is the difference between a bass pedal and bass distortion? Or is there not a difference?
Question #2 Let's say that I wanted a pedal/distortion for my bass, does have to have the title 'bass' in it's name? This one http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/DigiTech-XMM-Metal-Master-Heavy-Metal-Distortion-Pedal?sku=150204 does not have the 'bass' so would it work for me? Or does it have to say 'bass' like this one http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/DigiTech-XBD-Bass-Driver-Overdrive-Pedal?sku=150827
Question #3 What distortion/pedal would you suggest for me that is in the 50$-80$ price range?
Any other tips or suggestion would be great help. :D

#1 Not sure what you mean here. A bass pedal could be overdrive, chorus, delay, etc.
#2 You can use any distortion pedal with your bass guitar, but it won't sound as good. It's designed to work with signals that are an octave higher and you'll tend to lose some of the thickness to the bottom end.
#3 Boss ODB-3 all the way http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Boss-ODB3-Bass-OverDrive-Pedal?sku=151396
There are sound clips at the bottom of the page at MF.

#1 Oh, I am more confused that I thought. lol
#2 Does it apply the same for a guiter-guitar on a bass pedal? Does that question make sense?
#3 Kool, thanks, but why do you choose that one?
I didn't know they had clips. Thanks for pointing that out.

#2 Yes, guitar pedals are designed for guitar frequencies and vice versa for bass pedals.
#3 it has a knob that lets you mix the amount of distorted vs. clean signal, so you can get more variety of tone. Also it has a 2 band EQ as opposed to just a tone knob, once again, more versatility in tone. ;)

What is the distortion going to be used on the bass or guitar?
Then if it is a bass guitar, think about not distorting it and picking up a compressor and see if your bass will growl with that. If that is not enough, get a guitar stomp box that will give you just enough fuzz to growl. It is better not to go overboard! But if it is guitar, do you have an amp with distortion already on it?
